DANVILLE, KY – September 27, 2019 – Perryville Elementary School has been named as an Exemplary High Performing Schools National Blue Ribbon School for 2019 by the U.S. Department of Education. This prestigious designation was awarded to only 362 schools in the nation and just five public schools in Kentucky. Though this was awarded in 2019, the status for the school never expires.
“This designation rewards all the hard work undertaken by our students, teachers, parents and other community members into bettering our school,” stated Chris Slone, Perryville Elementary School principal. “This recognition does not happen without collaboration and investment from everyone in our community.”
Schools are only eligible to apply for this status once every five years and are chosen based on the school’s performance. Performance is measured by state assessments in reading and math and the school also must show student growth and progress in these areas.
“All of us in the district are proud to see Perryville Elementary School recognized with this distinction,” commented Michael LaFavers, Boyle County Schools superintendent. “It is indicative of the high achievement standards the school has set and is attaining.”
Mr. Slone and Mr. LaFavers will travel to Washington, D.C., in November to attend a recognition ceremony.
