Boyle County Virtual Learning (Grades 6-12)

Last Updated: 5/10/2021 1:42 PM

Boyle County Virtual Learning (BCVL) is a digital platform-based learning model which will serve as the primary source of instruction. A digital platform is a computer-based program that provides access to videos, tutorials, explanations and practice activities for courses/classwork. The student will complete all required platform work and any supplemental work that is assigned within the deadlines and timeframes. This is a self-paced program that allows students the flexibility to work outside “normal” school hours. It is NOT the same as the virtual instruction offered during the 2020-21 school year. There will be times students will be required to meet virtually with teachers and come onsite for assessments (including state assessments).

Student who meet the following criteria are able to apply to BCVL:

  • Enrolled in grades 6-12 in Boyle County Schools;
  • Have reliable access to the internet*;
  • Receive principal approval prior to beginning the program; and
  • Commit to a semester of virtual learning.

*The district can provide internet access for qualifying families based on economic need. Another application must be submitted to request a hotspot.

BCVL offers the following supports:

  • Access to a certified teacher;
  • Tutoring and office hours with a live teacher;
  • A district-issued Chromebook at no cost (not including damage fees);
  • Counseling services; and
  • Special Education and Gifted and Talented supports.

While a virtual learning option isn't a good fit for all students, Boyle County Schools recognizes this mode of instruction is optimal for some students. In order to be successful in BCVL, students should, at a minimum, exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Self-motivated;
  • Goal-oriented;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Independent worker;
  • Success in prior virtual programs;
  • Ability to follow a schedule; and
  • Self-starter.

The parent/guardian of an interested student will sign a contract during the completion of the application agreeing to several requirements of BCVL.

The window is now CLOSED for current students to apply to BCVL. However, NEW ENROLLEES may apply to BCVL when they complete online enrollment.
