New Immunization Requirements Released

Parents are encouraged to plan now for new state-mandated requirements

Beginning July 1, 2018, all students in preschool through 12th grade must show proof of having received two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine to attend school. In addition, students aged 16 years or older must show proof of having received two doses of the Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine. If the first dose of MenACWY was received at age 16 or older, the second dose is not required for school entry.

All Boyle County students were sent home with a letter detailing the new immunization requirements today. To meet the requirements, a current Certificate of Immunization must be provided to your child's school showing the date your child received these vaccines prior to the beginning of the 2018 – 2019 school year.

>> PLEASE NOTE: The two Hepatitis A vaccines are delivered six months apart. We encourage you to plan accordingly and schedule your child’s first Hepatitis A vaccine as soon as possible. <<

Your child may have already received these vaccines, however older immunization certificates did not require them to be documented. If your child has already received these newly required vaccines, he or she will not be required to receive the vaccines again. Simply ask your healthcare provider to document your child’s immunization history on a new certificate.

Hepatitis A and MenACWY vaccines are available from your doctor, clinic or healthcare provider and are covered as a no-cost preventative service by most health insurance plans when administered by network providers. All local health departments administer both vaccines, especially for children who do not have health insurance. If your child is not up-to-date on immunizations, please contact your healthcare provider or local health department to schedule an appointment.

Please send your child’s Certificate of Immunization, reflecting two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine and two doses of the MenACWY vaccine (for children 16 years of age or older), to school as soon as possible. Certificates may be dropped off at your child's school, emailed, faxed, or delivered to the District Health Coordinator.
