START WITH HELLO WEEK BEGINS Start With Hello Week

Over the next few weeks, Boyle County elementary schools will be making a difference by participating in Start with Hello Week. Organized by the Sandy Hook Promise Organization, the initiative is a youth violence prevention program aimed at teaching students the skills they need to reach out to those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation.

JCES AND PES JOIN COMMUNITY ELIGIBILITY PROVISION CEP

This school year, Junction City Elementary (JCES) and Perryville Elementary (PES) schools will offer breakfasts and lunches to all students at no cost through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program. The CEP is a provision under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 that eliminates the need for schools in low-income areas to collect applications for free and reduced-price meals.

ACTIVE SHOOTER EXERCISE PLANNED AT BCHS ON AUG 3 Active Shooter Meeting

Boyle County High School will be the site of a mock active shooter exercise on August 3, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Led by the Danville-Boyle County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), the full-scale exercise will test the responsiveness of local emergency agencies during an active shooter scenario.

BOARD HOLDS FIRST READING OF SAFETY STRATEGIC PLAN Board Hears Safety Plan

Last night, the Boyle County Board of Education held the first reading of a three-year School Safety Strategic Plan. The draft plan, prepared by the Boyle County Schools’ Safety Strategic Planning Committee, outlines recommendations to add school resource officers, introduce a new visitor management system, expand safety trainings and enhance mental health support structures.

The Board of Education approved Perryville and Junction City elementary schools' participation in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), at Thursday’s special called board meeting.

BOARD AMENDS SCHOOL CALENDAR Board Amends Calendar

The Boyle County Board of Education approved a plan to amend the 2017 - 2018 school calendar at a special called meeting on Thursday, April 12. The plan shifts the last day of school for students to May 31, accounting for four non-traditional instruction days and eight school closure days.

NEW CHILD IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS New Immunization Requirements Released

Beginning July 1, 2018, all students in preschool through 12th grade must show proof of having received two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine to attend school. In addition, students aged 16 years or older must show proof of having received two doses of the Meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine. If the first dose of MenACWY was received at age 16 or older, the second dose is not required for school entry.
